Hi, I’m Anita Peacock—founder, owner and manager of Peacock Products. Although my bags are great for everyone; I did originally design them for diabetics. So, here’s a little bit of my story and how Peacock Products came to be.

I’ve been a Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetic for almost 40 years now. I was diagnosed in 1970 at age seven. I’ve seen marvelous advances made in diabetes care since then—the home glucose monitor and the insulin pump are the headliners. But, these wonderful advances were just a little too late to prevent my losing my sight and much of my mobility, having congestive heart failure and kidney failure—all from diabetic complications.

The one good thing that came out of that dark, dark time in my life is Peacock Products. When I lost my sight, I was surprised to discover that there was nothing visually-friendly about any of the diabetes supply organizers on the market. Diabetes is the Number One cause of new blindness; so, this was quite shocking. Someone should really do something about that. But then, that thought got buried beneath the avalanche of health problems.

But, once my health finally began to improve, I again started my search for the visually-friendly diabetes bag. Surely, someone has designed a visually-friendly bag for diabetics by now! But, lo and behold, there still wasn’t anything on the market. There also seemed to be nothing with any style available, either. Everything looked like a medical supply case—a medical supply case that didn’t function very well for me. Who designed these bags? Not diabetics—that’s for sure! They made no sense. Were diabetics even consulted? I don’t think so. Why should I use a bag designed by someone who didn’t have a clue what I needed with me and how to organize it?!

So, with the help and encouragement of friends, family and especially my hubby, I began sketching. And finally, after many prototypes, the Peacock Purse was born and that was the beginning of Peacock Products. My bags are not perfect—I don’t claim that. But, I listen to you, my customers—my friends. I think of myself and Peacock Products as always being a work-in-progress—with your help, of course. We’re all in this together.

I can’t cure diabetes. I can only offer you my bags to make living with diabetes a lot easier. We love convenience and are much more likely to do something if it’s no bother. Peacock Products let your diabetes fit into your life. Peacock Products are designed by a diabetic (that’s me) for a diabetic (that’s you).

The only advice I’m sure of is this: Control your diabetes now so that it doesn’t control you later. (If you are the parent of a kid diabetic, YOU’VE got to make the adult decisions and make sure your kid does the right things!) Today’s technology gives you no excuse.

Procrastinating will guarantee you nothing but problems—the kind of heart-breaking problems you can’t take back, the kind of problems that limit your life or the life of your child forever. And you really don’t want that. Nor do I want that for you. I certainly never wanted it for myself.Take care of yourself. Be healthy.
